Why I needed yoga every week as a new mom (for the first year and beyond!)

Why I needed yoga every week as a new mom (for the first year and beyond!)

Becoming a mom is a whirlwind—a beautiful, exhausting, and transformative journey. As much as I loved my days with Izzy, I found myself craving something that would anchor me. That’s when my weekly mom and baby yoga class became my lifeline.

After several weeks of being home with my baby, I finally found a mom and baby yoga class. We started when Izzy was 10 weeks and are still doing it weekly at 19 months! At Rooted it was one of our first classes I knew we had to offer.

Moms need to do things for themselves AND be with their baby. This is the best of both worlds.

Doing yoga isn’t just about the physical practice, although that helped me feel strong again. It was about finding a space where I could just breathe and exist in the moment, even if only for an hour. Yoga gave me permission to let go of the constant to-do lists running through my head, to focus inward, and to reconnect with myself in a gentle, loving way.

I also needed the community. Attending yoga classes with other moms helped me feel less isolated. We were all in it together—tired, messy-haired, but showing up for ourselves. The simple act of being in that room with other women who were going through the same life stage was incredibly grounding.

Each week, I walked out of class feeling lighter, more patient, and more present—not just for myself, but for my baby. Yoga became my weekly reset, something I relied on to keep me steady in the ever-changing world of new motherhood.

In those moments of stillness, I realized that taking care of myself wasn’t just a luxury—it was essential for being the mom I wanted to be. That’s why at Rooted we prioritize your well-being as a mom. We take care of you so you can better care for your baby.

Happy mothering and hope to see you in a yoga class soon!
